The bipolar 2240 is a programmable timer/counter IC. An external RC network defines a timebase oscillator frequency which can be used to provide monostable periods of 1 RC to 255 RC in 1 RC step. When operating in the astable (free running) mode 255 frequencies or pulse patterns can be generated or the timer output may be synchronized to an external signal. This device may be used as a counter/divider by disabling the timebase oscillator and applying an external clock frequency source. A modulation input is provided for frequency modulation applications.
