SCART is now the Euro-Audio/video connection system to BS 6552:1984 (EN 50-049). This specification allows all necessary connections between the television/monitor and peripheral devices (e.g. video recorders, hi-fi equipment, computers, or teletext) to be made by one plug and socket.
 
The economy scart plug assembly consists of 20 loose piece tin-plated crimp contacts which may be inserted into the contact housing and terminated as required. Other types come with all pins pre-inserted and ready for soldering or crimping. Also available in silver or gold contacts and with a sturdy cable strain relief.

The sockets are available in various formats like PCB mounting, chassis mounting or
in-line and houses 21 tin, silver or gold plated solder contacts.

Scart cable assemblies

• Scart plug to Scart socket lead ideal for extending Scart cable assemblies. All 21 connections wired. Various lengths or made to order.
• NICAM Lead, Type 3, for connecting standard format VHS recorders with Scart socket to similar format recorder but with BNC/phono sockets.
• Connecting television with Scart socket to standard format VHS recorder with BNC/phono sockets

• Scart plug to 4 pin mini DIN plug and 2 phono plugs. May be used to connect a VHS video recorder to the Scart input of a compatible TV.
• 4 pin mini DIN plug to 4 pin mini DIN plug. May be used as a C-Y dub lead between VHS video recorders.
• Switched Scart plugs with various configurations
