A new version of Mimail, an email worm has detected yesterday. (26 January, 2004)
Mimail.q is actively spreading via the Internet in infected letters.
Infected emails contain: Sender address:
random
Subject:
very cool picture only for you
Body:
Good evening my dearest [random name],
I wondered
My brother had best sex I ever seen last night togather with the boss
of [random name] %-)
I switched on my samsung camera and make excellent images!
Please don't show pictures to your bro, okay?

Installation
After launching, the worm copies itself into the Windows registry as
sys32.exe. The main module of the worm is a inbuilt file named outlook.exe.,
which the worm extracts from itself and also copies into the Windows registry.
The worm scans the infected machine for any files which do not have
the following extensions:
.com
.wav
.cab
.pdf
.rar
.zip
.tif
.psd
.ocx
.vxd
.mp3
.mpg
.avi
.dll
.exe
.gif
.jpg
.bmp
Mimail then searches for email addresses in these files and sends copies
of itself to all the addresses found.
Other
Mimail.q also has a backdoor function, which opens port 6667 TCP to
receive commands.
A detailed analysis of Mimail.q will be available in the near future.
An urgent update with protection against this version of Mimail should
be sought immediately
