This page covers only variable transformers or, as commonly known, variacs; for a complete range of conventional transformers see appropriate page.
Various models are available
and the most popular range is the one illustrated on the right. This range
is of the "open type" and primarily intended for flush-mounting on panels.
Voltage range is from 0 to 270 and power ratings range from 0.30KVA to
3.51KVA or 1.2 Amps to 13 Amps.
The other popular model is the
fully enclosed type suitable for bench top work and experiments, as illustrated
on the right. The ratings of this range are the same as the one above.
Another range, shown on the right,
is the three phase type which is primarily intended for industrial use
but is also used extensively in schools and research laboratories. Various
sizes are available in "open style" or fully enclosed with voltages ranging
between 0 and 380, 430 or 470 and current carrying capacities of 5, 8 ,
13 or 20 Amps.
Other types are also available
from local stock and special requirements can be met within a short time.
